The Kilowatt Fox Hunt!

May 6th, 2023  –  Lamar City Park

There was a Fox on the loose in the park and the K0KWC club, along with the SEKARC club, weren’t about to let it escape!

Tim, N5STR, gets in a few laughs before he goes to work on the Fox Hunt.

On May 6th the K0KWC sponsored a Fox Hunt and Walk-In Exam session, and the weather could not have been better.  After a cold winter and a wet spring Mother Nature granted local hams a reprieve.  Tim, N5STR, took full advantage of the weather and hosted a most enjoyable event.

Strategies and tactics are discussed before the hunt.

The turnout was very good, and the Fox Hunt went well with ham veteran Tyler, KB0PQP, being the first and fastest hands in the mid-west with a directional yagi.  Steve, N0SLT gets praise and kudos for his clever invention of an antenna mount on his walking aid which allowed him to participate to the fullest.

Prior to the hunt, K0KWC was able to successfully administer a remote exam to Moshe, KC2FZW, a ham radio operator residing in the nation of Israel.  He successfully upgraded to General class under the guidance of Ralph, N0OTS, the VE lead for the session.  Ralph did a great job despite the geographical challenges.  At the beginning of the session was the exact time we had a train with horns blaring pass us by.  Not to be denied, Ralph and Moshe endeavored to persevere and overcome!  Well done, Ralph!

Steve, KF0MDE, works on his General exam.

After the fox hunt the K0KWC successfully administered a paperless exam to Steve, KF0MDE. Steve passed with an excellent score and is now licensed in the ULS with General class privileges.  Great job Steve and we look forward to seeing you make Extra soon.

Steve studies his paperless exam carefully before answering.

Great job everyone!  Fun, food, and laughs were had by all.  A special thanks goes out to Bob, N1UVO, who helped test both candidates.  Bob is the VE Lead for the Kings Point Amateur Radio Club in Sun City Florida and an experienced examiner who just recently began administering paperless exams to his club.  K0KWC was proud to have helped them make that a reality.

Tyler and Ralph share some thoughts and ideas.

Ralph did an excellent job administering his second ever international exam.
