The Kilowatt Amateur Radio Club (K0KWC) is proud to celebrate its 5th anniversary! Over the past five years, the club has grown into a vibrant community of amateur radio enthusiasts dedicated to learning, service, and camaraderie.
Founded in 2020, K0KWC has been at the forefront of promoting amateur radio through public service events, emergency communications support, and educational opportunities for new and experienced operators alike. From field day operations and special event stations to supporting community events like local fly-ins and bicycle tours, the club has consistently demonstrated the value of amateur radio.
One of the club’s key achievements has been its involvement in emergency preparedness and its close collaboration with ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service). Members have trained diligently to provide reliable communications when traditional systems fail, reinforcing the club’s commitment to serving the community.
K0KWC has also embraced technological advancements in the hobby, from digital modes to Meshtastic to online testing for new licensees. This forward-thinking approach has helped bring in new members and ensure the club remains relevant in the ever-evolving landscape of amateur radio.
This month also marks the third anniversary of our digital VE testing team! We’ve grown from just a handful of volunteer examiners to a dedicated team of over 20. What started as one online exam session per month has expanded to testing almost every day at various times to accommodate candidates across the country. Thanks to this growth, we’ve also been able to reduce our testing fee to just $5 for Kilowatt Club members. A huge thank-you to all the VEs who have made this possible!
As we celebrate this milestone, we look back on five years of growth and achievement, but more importantly, we look ahead to the future. The club remains committed to fostering a welcoming environment for all who share an interest in radio communications. Plans for the future include expanding outreach efforts, hosting more events, and continuing to be a hub of knowledge and service in the amateur radio community.
To all our members, past and present, thank you for being a part of this journey. Here’s to many more years of radio excellence with the Kilowatt Amateur Radio Club!
